Beware anyone violating the 1200 mile engine break-in procedure. A local racer in FL. purchased one a while ago and his engine blew up at 4600 miles. When he took it to be repaired under warranty, BMW after checking his on board computer asked him why he was doing 8000 rpm with 15 miles on the odometer? He was a very good customer so they did the work for free but BEWARE, they have memory in those black boxes!

I have read about a couple of engine failure around that mileage. Hope my car doesn't run into that! Hope the service dept guy who took my car home for the night without telling me drive the car according to procedures...but I doubt it.

O btw, the break in procedures for the E46 M3 are as follows...generally:

First 1200 miles...

1) rpm below 5500
2) vary engine speed while driving
3) no full throttle
4) service visit at 1200 miles to change differential fluid from break in fluid to the reg differential fluid.

I think that's about it...did I forget anything?
