I have been anticipating this car for some time and expect delivery in October. Since this will be a 2002 model and SMG will be an option, I'm torn between SMG and the standard 6 speed. Has anyone heard of 0-60 times for new M3s with SMG ?

I also am taking delivery of a 2002 M3, although not until april of 2002.
I had heard rumors about the availability of the SMG gearbox. I too was torn.
I think SMG is pretty cool, but in my opinion, not nearly as fun as upshifting and matching revs on the downshift...you know, being a driver.

Im an advocate of manuals for all sports cars which I think an M3 is..but the SMG II sounds very tempting! I dont think there is much of a penalty in terms of quickness especially for "normal" drivers.

Plus it would be pretty nice to drive like the F1 drivers...paddle shifters. I think I would have gone with SMG if it had been available. Cant go wrong either way. But if you're not confident in your driving/shifting abilities, either take a class to learn or get the SMG...otherwise you wont really realize the full potential of the engine.

Happy motoring!

Oh yea, btw, if your car is coming in oct with a sept production, you wont have the SMG as a choice as it's production starts november for U.S. I think anyway.
