my 01 m3 cab didnt come with an alarm. i gotta get one in. the dealer quoted me 900 bucks installed for bmw alarm!! is that right? i know this stuff is supposed to be pre wired for it. i looked around and found out that the alarm itself only costs 190 bucks. so why is the dealer quoting me 900? any advice guys?

Grab your ankles!

The alarm is easy to install and you can do it yourself....the car is prewired for it.

Screw your dealer.

$900 seems extreme. I was quoted $500 for the alarm and installation...$300 for the alarm plus $200 for the install.

You can do it yourself but you will still need the dealership to program your keys to work in conjunction with the alarm...cost is probably minimal.

If there isn't another dealer who's willing to charge a "fair" amount, then you should probably attempt it yourself...you can always just have them do it if you mess it up.

Btw, you can check price of accessories at the bmw website. I think the MSRP for the alarm is $300 on their site...same as what was quoted me by the dealership.

Frank, I think he is referring to the cab alarm kit which is a stripped down version (no interior motion detector) which runs about $100-$150 less than the coupes price.

I saw the vert alarm at Circle BMW for around $190 (I think).

you are correct in that the dealership has to program the car to recognize the alarm.
