I took delivery of my M3 yesterday and I am amazed at the improvement of the SMG II over the original SMG that I hated. However, I was horrified to see that once I had gone for a long drive to get a feel for it that the offside turn indicator was hanging out by its wires at the front, with a snapped clip inside the light unit where it used to attached to its mountings. Having called my dealer at 6.30 to find them still there, they asked me to pop in where they "fixed" it with some tape while a new unit is ordered.. however, they told me that they had 4 cars have the exact same thing happen, and put it down to, quote "Fritz in germany being over zealous tightening the screens" which in turn snapped the brackets. Anyone else had this? IP: Logged |

Sorry to hear about your problem Matt. ![]() But still congrats on the SMGII! Regarding the turn indicator...you mean the light assembly on the front of the car? that whole housing was hanging out by its wires?? I have never heard of this...maybe its from a specific production? Anyway, should be no big deal except the inconvenience of waiting, etc. If it was hanging off, did you check the body to make sure that it had not damaged the paint as it was flapping while driving? Now, all you have to do is maintain control for 1200 miles. IP: Logged |

Yeah it was hanging out by its wires.. although it seemed to drop out once the car had stopped so there was no damage to the body work. Once thing ive noticed with the SMG that isnt correct is that when you are in S (Sequential mode) the car is actually in Auto mode.. and when you select Auto mode, you have to use the paddles.. yet to raise this with the dealer.. Id post a picture of the car on here, but i cant work out how to get the picture into this window.. so I cant.. but if you wanna see it.. the estoril is gorgeous! IP: Logged |

cracking looking car mattuk, did the estoril colour cost extra?.i had a e36 m3 in estoril so i wanted a bit of change,i have imola red e46 m3 cab. did ask about special colours but they said because my cab was one of the first in the country,it had to be stock colour!. i take it you are based in blighty,i would love to see your car if you are near. worst thing about m3 is the 1200 miles run in... WOW!!! MattUK, I envy you! Estoril Blue, a classic M3 color, is totally awesome on the E46 M3. It’s unfortunately not available here in the US. I would have been my first choice, so I opted for Carbon Black. I also wish we had the 19” wheel option and the cross-drilled rotors here in the US. They to, look awesome. We can get them though the aftermarket guys but they’re over $2500 US just for the wheels – no tires! How much is the wheel option in the UK? Great pictures! HiFi Man IP: Logged |

Hi Dorian: My E36 M3 was in Silver, and almost every other BMW I see on the road these days is silver, so I couldnt get one. The colour isnt standard any more as you know, so I had to pay for individual preperation which was around 900UKP.. Yeah I am in Blighty, near the Sussex coast.. where are you? HifiMan: The colour isnt available here as standard, but as part of the individual programme you can request any colour you like.. although on early runs with the M3 I was told BMW would not consider any other colour, and even now they are fairly reluctant to allow just any colour, although this is bound to change once production moves along.. it also pushed the delivery of my M3 back by 3 months which as it turned out was great as I was then able to get SMG and the new 2002 model spec. Not sure how much the wheels were, about 800UKP I think, or thereabouts. IP: Logged |

hi matt,i am not too far away, cheam in surrey.it takes about 40 minutes to get to brighton for example. agree about the silver colour,a bit too common now.still looks good though.not too bad for the colour change £900,i thought it would be more.i wonder if it would be more if it was not a bmw colour?. grigio alloy is my favourite colour at the moment.(ferrari colour). love to the smg in action, pretty cool to get the cars together.hope the car is living up the hype surrounding it, i think it does and what a difference to the e36 model(like chalk and cheese).

Dorian. I am just outside Crawley, so about 20 minutes from you.. would be good to get the two cars together.. what colour is your convo? would make some good pictures! I believe the 940 quid for the colour applies to any colour you require... so you could have your ferrari colour if you wanted! Drop me a note if you wanna sort something out, days are good for me at the moment, but the weather is not! matt@xenon.co.uk IP: Logged |

Had a call from BMW this morning re my indicator unit, and have been told that BMW have withheld the replacment units and are not sending them out at the moment. Can only assume that they have found a problem with them and are waiting to recitify the problem.. So I have to wait.. ------------------ IP: Logged |
