Just out of curiosity, is BMW introducing satellite radio in the 2003 model year for the M3? Also, are there any plans to update the cell phone that can be integrated into the car. Thanks for the help.

SMG_Imola,

Which option did you go with for XM Radio? Did you replace the head unit or did you go with the Sony attachment? I have the Nav system so my options for install are somewhat limited. Did you manage to get everything to work through the BMW system - steering wheel controls included?

Does it work downtown near buildings? In a parking garage? In a tunnel?

Just curious.

Do you guys know if you have to mount the xm satelite radio antenna on the outside of the vehicle or can you mount it on the inside next to the rear window.

ggolamco and guys:

I got the Pioneer remote unit, i too have NAV, so the head unit was out of the question. I had it custom installed in the ashtray, flush mounted that is, so the ashtray cover can still close. You cannot integrate the XM radio into your stock NAV system, but it is connected via 89.1 on my FM tuner.

The system is like your tradional satellite system at home, where the line of site is important. You cannot be in a garage, or near high rises. But for the average consumer its great. I am the guinnie pig (sp) for having the antenna (as ugly as it is) installed in my rear deck - INSIDE the car, behind the rear window. It is supposed to be on the roof or the trunk OUTSIDE. The guys that installed it, told me that they will place it back outside if I don't get reception. But, I do, so far it has worked like a charm, except for the occasional loss of signal, which is rare, the XM is worth the money!!!!!!!! Email me if you guys have any other questions.
