Is it worth $19000? What would you pay? http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=64494068&dealer_id=&certified=n&max_price=&start_year=1900&end_year=1998&address=85249&search_type=used&make=BMW&model=M3&di stance=200&car_year=1995&ac_afflt=none&borschtid=09028069255884005704 IP: Logged |

hmm...looked great until i got to the salvage title part ![]() basically what this means i believe (not totally sure) is that the insurance company totalled the car and somebody bought the car and repaired it. The only reason an insurance company would total a car is if it's more expensive to repair than to "replace". Maybe the repairs were done well but just skeptical if they would have spent that kind of money to fix it "right". These car are very expensive to fix and you should get documentation as to where the work was done. You should also really find out why it was totalled...maybe it was fire damage which might not be as bad a something that would have damaged the frame..i would never buy a car where the frame was damaged. But then fire damage brings up electrical issues, etc. Regarding price...for comparison, I sold my E36 M3 in Jan of 2000..it had 58k miles on it...no luxury pkg..for approx $21K. I am in Atlanta. I haven't checked on used prices lately but aside from price i would find out about the car first. If the differential is only a couple of thousand between this and a slightly higher mileage without the salvage...i would probably choose the one without the salvage personally. you can also go to sites like carfax.com to get a car's history if you have the vin #. you should also have the car check over obviously (not so sure how useful this really is though) good luck, let us know what you decide. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info. I will dig for that information if I actually do look into getting that car. I was also attracted to the car because of the salvage. I would of course belittle the initial sale price by $5000 and go up from there. I doubt that the seller actually thinks he could sell it at 19k. It may be a good find if the totaling and repairs weren't that bad. Side note: You have a nice car, and a nice site. Just wish you had more users. Thanks again for replying. Question: Are there any problem areas that I should look out for when looking for a used 199x M3? IP: Logged |
