Just yesterday I purchased my first M3. First off I have to say it is the BEST all around car I have ever driven. I can't stop driving it! Its a 1995 Blk/Blk coupe with 47k. I purchased it through CarMax for only 21k. I was amazed at that they would let it go for such a cheap price... but then they told me they only paid 17k for it. The car is in immaculate condition. I didn't think it was a 95. All and all CarMax was great. I would recommend them to anyone. However, the number of M3s they see is slim to none. I was lucky.
I had some questions about the M3 that I couldn't really find in the manual or by searching the web.
Thanks IP: Logged |

Congratulations on your purchase. As a fellow '95 M3 owner, I'd be willing to bet you won't be disappointed. You have a few options on the Oil Reset. There are a bunch of reset tools you can buy for around $50-$100 or so - you can find them in the back of car magazines or on the www.dinanbmw.com webpage. Alternatively, you can rig up a simple contraption to connect 2 of the pins in the "reset plug" (under the hood on the pass side close to the windshield). I don't remember which pins, but I made such a device and have used it. Email me if you are pondering it and I'll dig up the directions. 93 octane should be fine. In fact, as soon as you modify your air intake or anything else, you'll need it. I bought a manual from www.bmpd.com (I think) for like $70. It's the service manual for the E36 (which is what you have) from 92-99 and covers the M3. It's okay as manuals go. I'm really a beginner at this, so it's probably a great manual and I just can't tell. Congratulations and good luck, Jeff Batt IP: Logged |

Congrats on your new car. Now try not to get too many speeding tickets. To reset your service light, you can do it yourself by buying reset tools. This can set you back about $100. If you're going to get one, might as well invest in a more expensive one that also reads the error code whenever you have engine problems. That way you'll know what's wrong with your car. Other than that, if you take your car to any BMW dealership or certified shop, they will reset the light for you after they do oil change/mantainance. As for the manual, you might be able to get it online. Some dealers might be able to order them for you. If not, you can get the Bentley manual for your particular car. They're very popular. Lastly, if the maintainance record wasn't in the car when you purchased it, it probably means the previous owner didn't keep track of it. I doubt you'll be able to recover that information. You can purchase a replacement Owners Manual from the BMW parts department of any BMW dealership. The part numbers are as follows: M3 95 09/95-12/95 M3 supplement 96 M3 97 M3 98 Hope that helped. I think the prices are right but not sure. [This message has been edited by Frank (edited 08-09-2001).] IP: Logged |
