I hope i will not hurt anyone`s feelings but in my free times i use to search information and meet new E36 M3 owners around the globe. The reason why i`m writing this is because i went to the Korman fast bmw site and i saw an incredible picture there. They are selling a modified brake duct wich has a tube leading to the intake of the air filter box. PLEASE... this is ridiculous not to say a true fake. This is a standard part in the euro M3 but it is not to create ram air as these guys say. This is to prevent water suction and any kind of dirt to enter the air box. Water and dirt and litlle stones wich may enter are drawned by this tube to the brake duct. Simple as this. (This is factory explanation, not mine.) Keep your eyes open. Thanks. Eduardo G. Not sure if I understand you, but are you saying that the tube from the intake to the brake duct is sucking air away from the intake? First of all, intakes create suction which would make that impossible. Second, the idea of an air tube from the brake duct is very sound. It is obvious that the amount of air coming through the brake duct is more than would be received through a normal set-up. Therefore, to channel that air into the intake is a good idea. Also, air from the duct is not as hot as the air which would normally come through near the radiator. I use a custom system that uses the brake duct for induction when I'm on the street. On the strip I use a more direct system similar to that of the Turner Motorsports touring cars (through the headlight). Whether the eoropean cars use the brake duct for an intake, I do not know. I agree with you in terms of cold air in the brake duct but remember that all car manufacturers have to put ram air away because the same reason as you described, you use it for street but what about for wet pavement? If you saw the picture of that part in KORMAN`S site you know what i am talking about. That`s standard in euro cars. I believe this part wont cause any trouble in the suction system because these cars have less "suction" than the cars with only one throtle body. IP: Logged |
