You can keep your M3 Mirrors or make it harder to steal by bolting them on.
You need a steel bolt, (appprox 100mm long) and thin enough in diameter to pass through hole mirror heads and base plates, which must also allow wiring to pass through.
You need to attach the bolts when the mirror head and base plate is of the vehicle using a self locking nut. using a self locking nut makes it difficult for the opportunist theif, because the whole nut and bolt assembly will turn if he removes the mirror glass and attempts to remove bolt. You will need to use a spanner and a long nose pliers to tighten bolt assembly, mirror heads and base plate. You also need to allow some slack in the connection so that the mirror gives from base plate in the event of a minor impact, but not too much to allow a hack saw blade in the gap. May take some trial and error to get correct space.
Hopefully this should deter the opportunist theif stealing the very expensive mirror heads or atleast buy you time that may put off people stealing them.

My mirrors are still stock. I know that some assholes steel them to put them on another cars. If i have bad luck with my mirrors i will install a pair from the E46 M3. I just love them and i think they are hard to steel.
