Hello all, I am new to the BMW scene and would like to ask a few questions. First off, I am looking into getting something like a 95 M3. The only ones that fall into my pricerange will probably have 100k+ miles on them. My main concern is durability. I'm not afraid of a "high" milage car, but I don't want the thing to fall apart on me at 150k. I used to work in a mechanic shop, and still have access to the shop whenever I need it. So I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and replace worn bearings and such. But what kind of problems can I expect to run into? Like I said, I'm looking to spend $15,000 or less (Preferably less) ------------------ [This message has been edited by Tknojnky (edited 11-14-2001).] IP: Logged |

I am also looking to get into the M3 area. I currently have a 1985 318i and want to sell it and get an older m3. any advice from anyone on whether to completely fix up the 318i or to buy a m3? and also, what year is specifically good and easy to come accross cheap. i am definitely willing to put a lot of work in to it, because a good friend is a driving school instructor for bmw and audi that i know of. would appreciate the info here, thanks. Without a doubt, the '95s are the bargains here. Their value is affected most in part by having a 3.0 engine vs. the 3.2 of the other E36s. For $15k or less you're either looking at one that has 150k+ miles or some light damage, not maintained well, etc. If you're willing to spend close to $20k you can get a clean '95 with under 100k on the clock. I'm new to these cars as of two weeks ago and am not yet aware of high mileage problems. I picked up a '95 Avus Blue, 42k miles, with $20k in mods (supercharger, susp., BBS RC wheels) for $29.5k. I am _very_ pleased . - Beau IP: Logged |

I agree with the above pricing info. I've been around and read an awful lot online and off, and haven't seen much of anything that would deter me from higher mileage cars, *as long as* they've been properly maintained. It might be hard, however, to get everything you want for under $15k as you wish. I have a very clean 98 with 70k miles and no problems; I paid $25,500 a couple months ago... Anyone here with well over 100k to chime in? IP: Logged |

I also purchased a 98 M3 4 drs with 45k miles on it, it runs great, very clean interior as well as exterior. I purchased the vehicle for a little less than $30,000, and I am very happy with the new wheels. IP: Logged |

Well, as it turns out, a friend of mine overheated his Convertible Mustang 5.0 about a year back, and now is offering to sell it to me for $300 bucks. I don't really like mustangs, but for $300 I couldn't pass it up. I'm thinking I'll probably just drop a crate engine in there, then turn around and sell it. Anyways, I will be looking for a BMW in 3 months or so, so I'll be around... Thanks again for all the help. IP: Logged |
