I am thinking about getting a used 98'(i think) M3... I test drove it and the power and handling seemed great but i could not for the life of me shift quickly from first to second? what would cause a problem like this??... and what do you guys do to fix it (assuming you have it)? IP: Logged |

Takes a couple of weeks in the car to get the shifting down. If you're currently driving a Japanese car it's a totally diferent feel -clutch and shifter. It's not a "sloppy" design so it doesn't hide you mistakes. This is true for all German cars that I have driven. M3 pulls a lot of torque - This combined with the unique feel make it tricky to get the hang of, but once you do you will love it! This is one of the things I love about German cars - you have to "learn" to drive them well. Your allways working to drive it better - so you don't get board driving it. Sounds like what you felt was normal, but I would test drive at least three cars to make sure. As long as there are no strange noises and the clutch feels good - think it will be ok. The clutch and tranny in these cars are strong. '98 with low miles should be a strong car. May pay off to take it to a BMW mechanic before you buy - If it's a 98 I'm sure your going to drop some bucks. Good luck. If you dont pick up the '98 find a good M3 - You wont be sorry.
