Test drove a 96 M3 today. One thing I noticed was this: When I was driving it around 40mph, I pressed the clutch, freed the gears, and slowly pushed the shifter into third. As the shifter was going into third (about halftway), it chattered/grind. Some people have said its probably the synchros (cause I have the same problem on my 93 Probe). I also noticed there's some resistance when trying to put it in gears 2&4. The M3 has around 64K. Any thoughts what the problem could be and how much to fix it? Or is it a regular thing on bimmers?
Any comments are appreciated .. new to M3's.

i had a very similiar experience when i test drove a 98' m3

no one has responded
im just wondering how much it would be to fix this sort of thing...

some cars you can just replace the synchros (i think)
but on some cars you have to replace the whole transmission

I can't say there's any noises coming from the tranny in the car I just picked up (supercharged '95 with 42k miles), although shifting to second and third is a bit notchy. A '98 I testdrove felt the same way. I suggest driving another car to confirm.

Now after owning the car for a few weeks I don't notice the notchiness anymore and my shifts are smooth. - Beau
