Not really, but yesterday morning I backed my M3 into a tree at 30 mph. It was a wet morning, and I was coming home. Took a right hander nice and easy and broke the cardinal rule. Never risk a $30,000 automobile for a rabbit, or squirrell, or any other little fuzzy creature. I pinch the exit to avoid him, and couldn't stop the car from swapping ends. Just incase none of you have backed a car into a tree before, it's pretty much exactly the same thing you see when a rally driver does it. The only thing you hear is the tires sliding until that muffled "whomp" of the back end crunching. Now that you know, I hope none of you feel the urge to go discover for yourselves .Anyways I caught the tree square in the roundel on the trunk lid. Both rear quarters appear to be ok, but the trunk lid, bumper, and spoiler are all toast. Mechanically it seems sound, the well for the spare tire/trunk cavity is dented just the slightest bit, but nothing underneath got caught up, exhaust is untouched, and everything from the rear axle forward is good. Question 1: Anybody else ever been in this position before, i.e. needed to repair most of the rear end. How'd it turn out? How long before you had your baby back? How much did it cost? Question 2: While I'm back here getting my rear worked on, any suggestions as to improvements to make? Since the ehaust is ok, I'm not really sure I'm gonna fiddle with it, but anybody have a favorite spoiler they think looks much better than the stock one on a '98? Any other ideas? Since its gonna be out of commission for a month, I might as well do any upgrades that would immobilize it now. Suggestions, comments, prayers? All are appreciated. Chuck Kleinhagen IP: Logged |

This is a very hard question to be talked about. Personaly, i never crashed none of my cars. Only once a truck destroyed an E30 i used to have but i was not inside the car. It was parked. I think you should fix the car first instead of thinking in mods. Mods need to be done with time and what you need is your M back on the road. Eduardo. IP: Logged |

My condolences! For future advise I can tell you this. I ran over a huge blown out truck tire doing 80 on a dark road. took out the front bumper cover, chin spoiler all ducting and baffles and both fog lamps - $1300+ bucks! For keeping my composure - not swerving - loosing controll ect... and sacrificing my front end - my insurance company rewarded me with having to come up with the deductable and raising my rates. I learned that if somthing is in the road and you hit it - it is a collision. If it hits your car before hitting the road it's comprehensive. The exception to this is animals. If you hit an animal in the road it is comprehensive. As much as I love animals, here is my advise. Run the little fuckers over!!!! A new chin spoiler a little buffing and your back on the road. All paid for by your insurance company with no negative concequences. In fact what ever you hit - put a little steak blood on it and tell 'em you hit a badger or somthing! Good luck - I feel for you man! Mark [This message has been edited by Mark (edited 12-23-2001).] IP: Logged |
